Assembled here are books we have enjoyed reading aloud to our girls. As time permits I will add brief comments about each book.
Henry Hikes to Fitchburg by Donald B. Johnson (Illustrator). A charming re-telling of the life of Henery David Thoreau. Emily loves this book!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling. What can I say. If you haven't heard of this book, you must be a muggle living in an alternate universe. If so, run, don't walk to your nearest book store and grab a copy. (Better yet, click the link above and order a copy from Amazon.com.)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling. The sequal to Sorcerer's Stone. If you've read Stone, you'll find your way to this volume.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling, Mary Grandpre (Illustrator). The third volume in the Harry Potter series.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4) by J. K. Rowling, Mary Grandpre (Illustrator). We found this installment disappointing. What makes the first three books charming is that Harry prevails because of his wit, and the help of his friends. Harry gets too much help in this book for my taste. This book would have benefited from a rowdy edit. At half the heft, it would make a more engaging read. Maybe.

Classics:

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

The 'Little House' series by Laura Engles Wielder

All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. Great on video, too!

Stewart Little by E.B. White

Charlotte's Web by E.B. White

Ok, ok, what can I say, this book is full of so many cool winter project ideas that you'll park yourself next to the weather radio praying for snow ... in July! Get it, you'll love it!
